With how rich Langkawi’s marine life is, it would be a shame not to try scuba diving while you’re on the island. It’s hard to choose a single spot in Langkawi, but we have to go for Pulau Payar for this list, as it’s among the best diving spots in Malaysia, in general.

For starters, Pulau Payar (along with its neighbouring islands) is mostly or completely uninhabited, so you can expect its waters to be clear and undistrubed. Furthermore, the Kedah Fisheries Department implemented strict guidelines to preserve the bustling ecosystem.

With this, you can always expect to see beautiful aquatic species during your scuba diving experience here. Moreover, you’ll be in awe of the pristine conditions of the beautiful and colourful coral reefs that also serve as homes for the fish!

Pro tip:

If it’s your first-time scuba diving, opt for the introductory dive + unlimited snorkelling package! On top of the diving essentials like life jackets, packed lunch and detailed guide, you can get first-hand advice from experienced divers!

If you’re looking for a premium stay on Langkawi Island, The Datai is one of the most luxurious resorts you can choose. We love this place not just for its hotel-like rooms, but also for its offered complimentary water sports!

Each guest can access the resort’s water sports activities, including windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, surfing, and snorkelling. Windsurfing and sailing, in particular, are great if you want to set out farther into the open water while being surrounded by panoramic views of the seas, islands, and rainforests.

New to this stuff? All you have to do is approach the resort’s Water Sports Team at the Sports Pavilion, and they’ll be more than glad to teach you the ropes!

Adding island hopping to your itinerary is a must when you’re in Langkawi, as it’s surrounded by fantastic islands worth exploring!

Alanona is one of our preferred tour operators for island hopping because they also include other activities, like snorkelling, in their packages. We opted for their island hopping + snorkelling package, and we love how we got to visit five islands and try three activities.

The snorkelling spot lasts one hour and it’s held in the middle of the sea to ensure that each guest will witness the bustling and untouched marine life the islands have to offer. On top of this, you can also try your hand at fish and eagle feeding!
