Nobody should go through a bad hair day. As someone who still cringes at their yearbook photos, I know that my younger self would thank me today when I share some of the salons I’ll share here.

Basic hair salon services like haircuts and styling cost around RM50 to RM100 in Petaling Jaya. Meanwhile, complex treatments like keratin, perming, and colouring can cost upwards of RM200.
1. Le Classic Hair Studio

We just had to include Le Classic Hair Studio in this list because it’s one of our go-to spots and we’ve never been disappointed!
One of the things we love the most about this salon is its attentive and skilled stylists who always make sure to understand the style we’re going for before cutting our hair.
The salon itself is noteworthy, as it looks more like a high-end spa you’d typically find in 5-star hotels. Plus, Le Classic’s services are varied, featuring perming, frizz control, keratin treatments, and hair styling.
What keeps us coming back, however, is their colour therapy treatment. It’s also amazing to see how our stylist can breathe life back into colour-damaged hair.
Our only gripe is the Le Classic’s pricey rates, though we’ve always managed to overlook that given the quality of their services and consistent results.

A friend recommended A-Saloon at the Atria Mall because of one of their stylists, Chris. Interestingly, during our interview with their regulars, he was constantly mentioned! From what we’ve observed it must be because of his in-depth consultation process and reliable results.
We also noticed that many regulars rave about A-Saloon’s digital perms. Though no one in our team got that service, we were lucky enough to observe a client and we were impressed with how bouncy and naturally curly the results were.
The price is in the mid-tier, but we do see the customers’ money’s worth based on how they spoke fondly of the salon in our interviews. We’re just iffy to find some complaints about the stylists’ tendency to upsell, which can come off as aggressive.

LAVIIU by One Hair caught our eyes because of its trendy minimalist interior akin to those hipster cafes in the city. It’s also the perfect backdrop for taking self-portraits after getting a new look!
We were also pleased to discover that they offer free tea and/or desserts for every customer, making the ambience even more relaxing and welcoming.
However, nothing can overshadow the skill of their stylists, and their lookbook is a testament to this. They can do just about every style, but we think that their specialty is the balayage, as it was featured prominently on their lookbook—plus, it’s one of the most highlighted services of their regulars.
We just wish they can improve their time management skills, as a handful of their customers complained about how their scheduled appointments weren’t on time.

We dropped by Sense of Touch SS2 since we’ve heard so many good reviews about them. Luckily, the salon wasn’t too busy during our visit and we were able to chat with one of their stylists and also observe some treatments.
The place itself features a welcoming vibe, which is much appreciated considering how the high-end look of the salon can be intimidating at first glance.
They also offer far more than just haircuts, as they also feature rebonding, relaxing, healthy perming, hair repairing, etc. We also commend them for their efforts in keeping clients’ hair healthy by using gentle products, even in their colouring treatments.
Our only gripe? Their price range is a bit too high for our taste.
On the upside, their regulars have nothing but praise about the salon staff. Some customers even told us that, normally, they don’t prefer conversations during haircuts, but the stylists here are so personable that they can’t help but strike up a conversation.

Katsu Hair Lounge immediately caught our attention when we were looking for candidates for this list because of its Instagrammable interior decor. We then reached out to their regular clients, and many gave glowing reviews.
One of the things they’ve highlighted the most is the professionalism of the stylists here. They mentioned how they felt like they were genuinely being listened to during the consultation process, which resulted in them getting the exact look they wanted.
These reviews made us want to check the salon for ourselves, but unfortunately, they were packed during our visit. However, it did provide us a glimpse into their salon, and we must say, it’s even more elegant and well-maintained in person!
The only issue that some of their previous clients pointed out is how they post misleading, eye-catching prices that aren’t the final rates.
