As someone who’s always anxious before a haircut or a hairstyling session, I’ve always struggled with finding the right hair salon in my residential area in Kuala Lumpur. Fortunately, with grown-up money, I can find the best places to get makeovers through trial and error!
However, I think that going through the trial and error phase is costly—and who wants a bad hair day, anyway? So, to skip that altogether, I’ve enlisted the help of my team and we were able to scroung up some of the best hair salons in KL!

The cost of hair salon services, like haircuts, wash and blow, styling, and colouring, starts at RM55, RM45, RM65, and RM250, respectively. The prices vary depending on the salon’s reputation, the stylist’s skill, and the service itself.
1. Walking On Sunshine
Services: Perm, hairstyle, haircut, scalp treatment and services, colouring

We’ve heard of Walking On Sunshine through one of those ads on Facebook that makes you think that the app is listening in on your conversations (shhh!). It was a much-welcome ad, as we discovered that they offer a versatile set of services, like perming, colouring, and treatments.
One of Walking On Sushine’s most popular services is their haircut. From what we’ve observed, their stylists ask several questions before proceeding with the haircut to make sure that they get the correct style.
We also commend the versatility of their stylists, as we’ve heard good things from previous clients of different ages. For instance, we interviewed an elderly woman struggling with thinning hair, and she highlighted how the stylist made her hair look more voluminous.
Through our interviews with their previous clients, we also discovered that some of their stylists don’t get it right all of the time. However, the great thing about them is that they feature an 8-day policy for hairdos if customers aren’t pleased with the outcome.
One of the most glaring issues we’ve heard about was a customer not getting the right hair colour, which is a costly and time-consuming mistake.

The service was amazing
“I booked a head spa. Member price is RM150 for 60 mins. The regular price is RM180. The service was amazing.
It started with hair brushing, then they used a thin comb to part the hair and applied some scalp product, and then they massaged my head and shoulder. It was very relaxing and I enjoyed it a lot. We were moved to the hair washing station for hair shampooing and conditioning.
I don’t remember much as I fell asleep. After they applied the hair conditioner, they started to massage my hands. The service ended with a pick-your-style blow dry.

One Hair at Bukit Jalil is a salon we frequently visit because of their proven high-quality work, which is showcased through their in-depth lookbooks. The impressive before-and-after images were enough to sell us on their services, and they haven’t disappointed since.
We also love visiting them because of the friendly and welcoming vibes—their stylists are approachable, and they’ll strike up fun conversations as you’re getting your hair treated.
To complete the pampering session, they also offer complimentary tea and desserts!
One thing that some of their previous customers didn’t like was the eye-catching yet misleading promos they advertised. Although we get that it’s a common marketing tool, seeing how the final price is different from what’s marketed may not sit right with some customers.
We just wish that they would display the final price from the get-go, as the quality of their work is worth paying for.

A-Saloon was already on our radar before making this list because we’ve seen their branches around Kuala Lumpur. Although we haven’t tried their services ourselves, we’ve always thought it’s a good place for a makeover because of its fancy decor.
We reached out to some of their previous clients, and they confirmed our thoughts! For starters, many highlighted how the stylists were attentive during their consultation, which helped achieve their desired style.
A-Saloon also offers versatile hair services, like extensions, colouring, rebonding, and styling.
The downside is that the place is almost always packed with customers, especially during the weekends. Fortunately, they do offer a pleasant waiting area, and the staff members are always welcoming.

Miroku Hair Salon was recommended to us by a friend who’s obsessed with Japanese hairstyles, and it wasn’t hard to see why he was crazy about this place.
We decided to check the salon’s portfolio via their official website’s gallery, and we were impressed. Eventually, we decided to drop by—after all, it does feature an accessible location.
Right off the bat, we fell in love with how artsy the place felt compared to the usual hair salons in the city. The staff also offers complimentary beverages to keep their customers comfy.
Unfortunately, the place was jampacked when we visited, so we didn’t continue with the service.
We did speak with some of Miroku’s regulars, and one of the common consensus was how talented the hairstylists there are. One thing many highlighted was the stylist’s efforts to ask questions before proceeding to make sure that the result was just what the clients wanted.
However, we noted some reports of inconsistency with their customer service. For instance, the appointment times that were agreed upon are sometimes not followed, which mostly happens during peak days.

Le Classic Hair Studio is deemed one of the most reliable salons in the capital, and its multiple branches are a testament to this. We reached out to their regulars to get a better idea of their services, and we were met with overwhelmingly positive reviews.
Many highlighted how much they appreciated the selection of both hair and scalp services, like colour therapy, frizz control, and body straight treatments.
The Air Wave Perm Plus caught our attention because of the results we saw. Regulars highlighted how this treatment minimised frizziness and that the curl sizes were exactly what they envisioned and agreed upon.
Several customers also praised how their stylist worked around their budget and preferred style to get a treatment they could agree on.
The main issue we’ve seen with customers who didn’t bother coming back to the salon was the miscommunication regarding appointment times. They stated how they had to wait more than 20 minutes after their agreed time before they were attended to.

“Did my hair for the first time at Le Classic with Jeffrey. He spent six hours to get me to achieve my dream hair. There was no hard selling, and he even consulted my budget and the results that I wanted.
