9 Authentic Chinese Muslim Restaurants in KL that Serve Amazing Halal Food
As vast as Kuala Lumpur’s food scene is, one of its underrated gems is its selection of Chinese Muslim restaurants. I’m guilty of overlooking this cuisine as well, being someone who’s drawn to Western food like moth to a flame.
So imagine my surprise when I discovered a whole new world of dishes past the usual burgers and fries when I tried Lanzhou beef noodles at this one spot. Since then, I’ve been on the hunt for the best Chinese Muslim restaurants that the capital has to offer.
Although far from finished, I’m proud of the places I’ve discovered, which is why I want to share them with you. So, ditch your comfort zone and try the best halal dishes at my handpicked KL Chinese Muslim restaurants below!
Amber Chinese Muslim Restaurant

Address: 148, Jln Ampang, Kampung Baru
Contact details: +60 10-559 5268
Operating hours: Daily from 11:30 AM to 1:00 AM
Cost: $$
If variety is your top priority, then Amber Chinese Muslim Restaurant should be on your radar! It offers an impressively wide buffet spread that features classics like kung pao chicken, sliced beef with potatoes and our favourite, steamed shrimp in hot chilli oil!
One of their bestsellers, however, is the roasted lamb, and rightfully so! These require advance booking because of how much time they take to cook to achieve that fall-off-the-bone tenderness.
Of course, you can’t leave without trying their clear noodles in chilli oil, as it’s the perfect partner for tons of other dishes from their menu. For instance, one of our favourite combinations here is these noodles with the tender spicy beef shanks.
Pro tip:
Consider eating here during your touristy day tour in KL! It’s located in the heart of the city near iconic attractions like the Petronas Twin Towers and shopping malls such as Suria KLCC.
Mee Tarik Warisan Asli

Address: 51, Jalan Tasik Utama 3, Sungai Besi
Contact details: +60 3-8964 9444
Operating hours:
- Tuesday to Friday: 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM
- Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM
- Sunday: 10:50 AM to 11:00 PM
Cost: $
Mee Tarik Warisan Ali is one of the most beloved halal Chinese chains in KL, featuring multiple branches in the capital. It’s also among the cheapest, so if you’re looking for an entry to the cuisine, consider choosing this restaurant!
One of their most well-known dishes is the titular hand-pulled noodles, which in this case are drenched with the richest beef broth we’ve tried in the city. To make things even better, each serving comes with a hearty portion of tender beef chunks!
Alternatively, you can order this dish without the broth! It offers a different type of texture, as the noodles, along with their fresh veggies and beef chunks, are stir-fried.
Pro tip:
If you’re visiting with a big group and you want to order something to share, we recommend getting the 20-piece steamed dumpling! These pockets of beef are amazing on their own but if you want our advice, dip them in sambal or black vinegar.
Lamb Shepherd Restaurant

Address: NO.8A Grd Floor Jalan 4/27f
Contact details: +60 11-1193 9872
Operating hours:
- Tuesday to Friday: 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM
- Saturday and Sunday: 11:30 AM to 6:30 PM
Cost: $$
When it comes to authentic halal Chinese dishes, Lamb Shepherd Restaurant is one of our top picks. For starters, its founders are from mainland China and they’re Muslims, which is why you’ll notice how each dish is cooked traditionally.
As you may have gleaned from their name, one of the best dishes that showcases this authenticity is their roasted lamb. These bad boys are crispy on the outside while maintaining a tender interior—plus, they come with a boatload of chillies!
It’s also a MUST to order their dumplings, as they’re packed with the most flavourful minced beef. Plus, they’re great to pair with another one of their bestsellers, the boiled fish soup, if you want to add some umami to your orders.
Pro tip:
If you’re looking for a dish that’s a bit familiar to your tastebuds, you can’t go wrong with ordering their crispy and tender fried chicken. Keep in mind, though, they come with tons of chillies!
Sunny Garden

Address: G-26, Platinum PV 128
Contact details: +60 11-6198 5109
Operating hours: Daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Sunny Garden is THE definitive Chinese Muslim dumpling spot in KL, as it offers just about every variation (while remaining halal) of the dish. Among their treasure trove of variations, however, our favourite is the fried dumpling.
Don’t get me wrong, I love steamed dumplings as much as the next guy, but there’s something satisfying about biting into a crispy skin to reveal its meaty goodness inside. Speaking of, the insides of these crispy pockets can either be beef, chicken, mutton or egg.
If you’re looking for something hearty, you can also opt for their soup dumplings! These feature the same fillings, but with the added rich broth that goes perfectly with some chillies.
Pro tip:
Don’t limit yourself to their dumplings! You can also try their chicken fried rice or beef soup if you want to try something heavier and flavourful.
Musa Lanzhou Ramen

Address: Wisma Central, Jln Ampang
Contact details: +60 3-5879 8249
Operating hours: Daily from 11:00 AM to 9:45 PM
Cost: $
When you think of Chinese Muslim dishes, you’ll most likely picture a hearty bowl of beef noodle soup. If that’s what your taste buds are telling you to get, then Musa Lanzhou Ramen should be your top choice because it offers one of the tastiest and most authentic versions of this dish!
For starters, each noodle strand featured in their soup is made from scratch and hand-pulled every day. Furthermore, the founder of the restaurant, who also makes the noodles, hails from Qinghai, China, the origin of ramen.
These noodles are then drenched in a generous serving of their beef broth, which has been simmering for several hours. To top it all off, a handful of tender beef chunks and chives are added to create the ultimate comfort meal for a rainy day in KL.
Pro tip:
Pair your noodle soup with a plate of their dumplings! These are also freshly made by the day and go perfectly well with sambal!
Golden Valley
– Media credit: goldenvalley_kl
Address: L3-18/19, South Wing, Melawati Mall
Contact details: +60 3-4161 3328
Operating hours: Daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM
Cost: $$
Golden Valley offers a more elevated Chinese Muslim dining experience without being too expensive. It features a classy interior that’s a far cry from the usual humble eateries that boast ceiling fans and plastic chairs—not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course!
However, the main star remains to be the food, and boy, are there a lot of goodies to choose from! One of our favourite meals here is their seafood jamboree, which is essentially a festival of shellfish like crabs and tiger prawns on a plate.
When it’s rainy outside, however, we love to slurp on their Cantonese-style seafood bee hon for that perfect rich broth and tender prawns. If you’re looking for something meaty, however, you can opt for their stir-fried beef noodles!
Pro tip:
If you’re visiting with family, you can order one of their sets, each of which comes with the soup and dessert of the day. However, if you’re a lone wolf and you want to save money, you can opt for their individual bento sets!
Ruyi & Lyn 如意
– Media credit: ruyilyn
Address: 4th Floor Annex Bangsar Shopping Center
Contact details: +60 3-2083 0288
Operating hours: Daily from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Cost: $$$
Ruyi & Lyn is a great Chinese Muslim restaurant if you’re going on a date or simply out to celebrate something special. It’s a fine-dining restaurant that takes classic dishes from the cuisine and turns them into next-level meals.
The perfect example of this, which is coincidentally one of their bestsellers, is the staple steamed fish. This time, however, the fish used is a marvel goby that’s been steamed in a delicious signature ginger and chawan mushi.
If you never understood the saying: “a feast for the eyes”, look no further than their dish called the “Flames of Glory”. It’s essentially a beef brisket served inside a pineapple, but gimmicks aside, these are some of the most tender and juiciest meat we’ve tasted!
Pro tip:
If you don’t eat meat, we recommend ordering their Shanghai lasagna. This vegetarian take on the classic Italian dish uses Chinese cabbage and crab roe in place of the pasta and minced beef, but don’t worry, the cream cheese is still there!
Mohd Chan Restaurant
– Media credit: mohdchanmy
Address: 59 – 60, Jalan Negara, Taman Melawati
Contact details: +60 3-4105 6125
Operating hours: Daily from 11:30 AM to 11:00 PM
Cost: $$
Mohd Chan is always a great option if you’re looking for authentic Cantonese food that won’t break the bank. It offers over 10 branches across Kuala Lumpur alone, so take your pick—don’t worry, each one offers the same amazing halal food!
One of their bestsellers here is the classic buttered prawns, which are impressively massive for their cheap price! These are topped off with golden egg yolk floss, which adds that subtle hint of umami.
Another local favourite on their menu is the seafood char kway teow, which features a hearty amount of prawns, fish cake, taugeh, and kuchai. These are mixed in with the delicious stir-fried noodles and soy sauce combination for a festival of flavours!
Pro tip:
If you’re visiting with kids or someone who’s a picky eater, you can order them a classic, proven and tested deep-fried chicken chop. Meanwhile, if you think they can take the spice, you can also get them the crispy ayam szechuan.
Jibby Chow
– Media credit: jibbychow
Address: 4, Jln Telawi 4
Contact details: +60 3-2201 8551
Operating hours: Daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
Cost: $$
We recommend Jibby Chow if you’re visiting with friends or your family, just because of the sheer variety of halal Chinese and Cantonese classics on their menu. For starters, they offer a wide array of dim sum that can either be fried or steamed.
Our favourite out of the bunch is the superior shumai, which is packed with a combination of chicken and prawn. If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, we recommend the Szechuan dumpling, which has more kick because of its hot and sour vinegar broth.
However, don’t miss out on their meat dishes, especially the Mongolian-style Australian lamb ribs! These tender and juicy ribs are drenched in lip-smacking marinade, and to complement this flavour, they come alongside pickled chilli and sliced cucumbers.
Pro tip:
If you want to commute, we recommend taking the bus and dropping off at the KL1132 Bangsar Telawi station. From there, the restaurant is only a two-minute walk away.
