Hidden behind a simple green door is Something Bakery, a quaint and Instagrammable cafe that features a wide array of pastries and freshly brewed coffee. It’s a great chill spot for friends who are looking to catch up over some brunch and an overall great place to wind down on your own.

Their biggest draw here, however, is their crepe cake, which features tons of layers with equal lathers of icing in between—yum! They also come in different flavours but our favourite one is undoubtedly their chocolate cake because of my insatiable sweet tooth.

As for their beverages, you can also expect premium quality! If you’re looking for something that can pair perfectly with your pastries, we recommend getting the cheese foam yellow tea.

Pro tip:

The best way to get here via commute is by riding the bus and dropping off at the Madrasah Al-Abideen Bukit China bus stop. From there, it’s only a 3-minute walk going to the bakery.

Sudo Bakery is one of the new kids on the block, and we’ve got to say, they’re quickly making a name for themselves! One of the things they’re known for is their sourdough, which is massive and masterfully made—and reasonably priced.

They offer this bread in different variations, but their bestsellers are the country and wholemeal sourdough. If you want something that could kickstart your morning, however, we highly recommend their blueberry cream cheese bagel!

Another bestseller here is the matcha cookie! You can get them in big batches, which we think is the only right way of ordering this baked good because of how addictive they are.

Pro tip:

If you’re planning on going on a picnic at one of Melaka’s parks, we recommend grabbing a Pullman loaf from this bakery to get something for your group! This loaf is cheap and can feed more than a couple of people—plus, you can flavour them the way you like using spread.

When it comes to making the best personalised cakes in Melaka, Italy Bakery is definitely in the conversation. Whether it be rolls, round cakes, or slices, you can expect this bakery to deliver with flying colours, especially with their cake decorations!

Italy Bakery ramps everything up to eleven when they’re tasked with making personalised cakes for birthday celebrants. For instance, they can easily bring beloved characters from cartoons and other popular mediums to life!

Aside from cakes, however, they also serve a solid selection of pastries ranging from tarts to croissants, loaves of bread and more. Among these pastries, our favourite is the butter roll, as it’s as it’s simple yet flavourful.

Pro tip:

If their branch in Melaka Raya is out of your way, you can also check out their branches at Melaka Baru, Taman Kenanga, Semabok Perdana and Seri Mangga!

Malaiqa By Gula Cakery is one of the most beautiful cafes/bakery shops you can find in the city, boasting bright colours, minimalistic designs and flowery elements. This type of environment is also why it’s a beloved brunch spot for people who are looking to catch up.

Aside from its pleasing looks, however, this place is worth checking out because of its wide array of offerings. For starters, they have various types of pastries, ranging from savoury to sweet like cakes, churros, doughnuts and more.

Furthermore, since it’s indeed a brunch spot, you can also help yourself with some of their light meals and quick bites like pasta and sandwiches. If you’re looking for something heavier, however, we recommend their steak!

Pro tip:

If you want to end your meal on a sweet note, we recommend ordering a slice of their berry pavlova cake! It’s not overwhelmingly sweet and the best part is that it’s topped with various types of fresh berries.

Butter & Olive Pastry House continues the traditional bakeries of before by being a no-frills establishment that’s fixated on providing freshly baked bread. They only use high-quality ingredients, and the best part is that they can deliver their goods straight to your home!

As much as possible though, we recommend visiting one of their branches in person, as the experience of smelling their freshly baked goods straight out of the oven is unmatched. From leaves to tarts, cakes, rolls and more, you’ll find just about every pastry here!

If you’re overwhelmed by their expansive menu, we recommend ordering one of their decadent rolls! You can either go for the classic caramel or chocolate flavours, but if you want to try something new, we recommend their pandan and angel berries roll.

Pro tip:

You can also stop by their branch at Taman Cheng Baru if their location at Taman Malim Jaya isn’t on your itinerary in Melaka. Going to this branch is fairly easy as well, as you only have to ride a bus going to Gerai MBMB Taman Cheng Baru 2, and you can walk from there.

Kneading Peace Café isn’t strictly a bakery on paper, but they offer such amazing Swiss braided bread that we had to include them on this list. Plus, we love their purpose of giving refugees a chance to work in their cafe, so it’s really a no-brainer addition.

Going back to their braided bread, one of the reasons why we love it so much is because of the variety of ways they allow you to flavour them. You can either go for a simple butter and cheese on the side or get their peanut, butter and banana variation.

You can also grab some premium-quality cup of joe to pair with your pastry of choice! Better yet, you can order other brunch items like their pizza!

Pro tip:

While you’re here, be sure to stop by the nearby Masjid Kampung Hulu, which is one of the most historic points of interest in Melaka. It’s a mosque that dates back to the 18th century and features some of the most impressive feats of architecture in the city.
